Chuck Schuldiner’s guitar voicings got more bizarre and jazz-like. Prog-ish pivots got even more extreme and frantic. But Death likewise scaled back the mania for some truly terror-sludging sections. And while Schuldiner’s lyrics once relied to horror tropes, nothing seemed scarier than the manipulative, hypocritical faith healers he howled of on the record’s title track.
