Mid-way through Modern Life is War’s fully-pounding and emotionally-devastating debut album, frontman Jeffery Eaton forcefully howls out he and his melodic hardcore band’s guiding principle: “Don’t hold back.” Sure enough, My Love. My Way. quakes through countless heart-on-your-sleeve moments, as presented through a mix of fast-and-furious punk arrangements (“Yesterday’s Trash”), one-noted mosh dissonance (“War”) and violet waves of distorted melancholy. Paraphrasing its “Self-Preservation,” this is ambition, and it’s as beautiful and ugly as it gets. Available now on limited orange vinyl.
