Pantera’s 2000 swan song, Reinventing the Steel, stands as a favorite of both singer Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, boasting chest-thumping anthems like “Revolution Is My Name” and “Goddamn Electric.” Rather than kowtowing to the nu-metal sounds that eclipsed their “power-groove” in the metal zeitgeist, Pantera doubled down on their sheer force and pile-drove over the flavors of the month with some of the heaviest material in their catalog. It wasn’t so much a reinvention but a reminder of their eternal dominance.
