…Like Clockwork was a big deal for Queens of the Stone Age. It was Josh Homme and Co.’s first album in six years, and the pressure was on to follow the less-than-stellar Era Vulgaris with a strong return to form. The band delivered in strides, tapping longtime collaborators like Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor and Mark Lanegan — in addition to mother-effing Elton John — to flesh their indica-fueled desert-rock out into punchy, arena-sized bangers that sounded both classic and crisp.
