The turn of the millennium marked a boom time for Swedish extreme-metal. Like their peers in Opeth, In Flames and Meshuggah, Soilwork truly embraced their full powers on their first record of the 21st century, 2001’s A Predator’s Portrait. With more production value than their last, and an added dose of occasional cleans, the songs on this record arehookier, shreddier and all-around more musically interesting than what they’d done before. You can’t listen to “Like the Average Stalker” and not headbang like a gleeful idiot.
