While it’s not as eclectic as Soundgarden would get in the nineties, Screaming Life/FOPP is a deep-cut dive into the early days of the grunge institution. Rain-soaked sludge-slams like “Hunted Down” and “Nothing to Say” revealed that Chris Cornell’s towering post-Zep vocal style was in full-power mode from the jump, while “Sub Pop Rock City” is an oddly prescient hard-rock goof that predicted the oncoming hysteria around the Pacific Northwest scene.
