Sophomore records aren’t often as culturally seismic as Death’s Leprosy. It’s a revolutionary marker for early death metal, with Chuck Schuldiner and Co. expanding upon the brutal parameters of Scream Bloody Gore by getting a touch more technical, ramping up the menacing melodicism of their music, and transcending their gooey gore beginnings to explore the pensively macabre (“Pull the Plug”). A rotted-out insta-classic that’s lost none of its fester-heavy luster.
