The Warning have just dropped the music video for their new single "Ego," and the Mexican sister trio have never looked or sounded more dangerous.
Shot in stark black and white, the video casts Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal as something close to digital insurgents. Dressed in sleek, Matrix-inspired outfits, the band spends the clip fending off a swarming crush of paparazzi and media — a fitting visual for a song that is, at its core, a middle finger to anyone watching from the cheap seats.
Musically, "Ego" is the heaviest curveball the band has thrown in a while. The track leans hard into a nu-metal influence, and frontwoman Daniela "Dany" Villarreal rides it with a melodic, half-rapped delivery that snaps between sneer and hook without ever losing the tune. It's a different gear for a singer best known for her soaring rock belt, and it pays off. Then there's the low end: deeper into the song, bassist Alejandra "Ale" Villarreal locks into a grimy, percussive nu-metal tone that wouldn't sound out of place on a Mudvayne record — the kind of bass sound that would make Ryan Martinie himself do a double take.
The real twist is the language. "Ego" is sung entirely in Spanish, and the lyrics are pure venom. Dany opens by insisting she never set out to offend — it's just something the other person will never understand, and she's done trying to change what they choose to see ("ya lo intenté, ya me cansé" — I've tried, and I'm tired of it). From there the gloves come off. She doesn't have time to waste the way her target does; she's already read them and moved on, even if they haven't noticed she's gone.
The chorus is where the song earns its title. Over and over, Dany dares the listener to tell her she can't do something — because she always takes what she wants. "Yo no ladro, yo solo muerdo," she warns: I don't bark, I only bite. Each hook lands on the same closing line — "un ataque directo al ego," a direct attack on the ego — turning the whole track into exactly that. She isn't apologizing for winning, and she can already smell the fear: it's obvious you're scared. The bridge twists the knife further, with the band shrugging off the hate entirely — think whatever you want, she says, I hope it hurts.
"Ego" arrives as the follow-up to "Kerosene," the single the band released back in March, which has since climbed into the top 15 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart. Like its predecessor, the new track was produced by Anton DeLost, and it was co-written by all three sisters alongside DeLost and Monica Velez. Both songs build on the momentum of the band's most recent album, 2024's Keep Me Fed, home to the single "S!CK."
The release also lands in the middle of a busy stretch on the road. The Warning are currently out across North America as the opening act on YUNGBLUD's tour, where they first debuted "Ego" live during their set at Seattle's WAMU Theater on May 15. That run wraps up at the Synovus Bank Amphitheater at Chastain Park in Atlanta on June 13 — and the band have also lined up a one-off headlining show of their own in New York City at Pier 17 in June.
Between the chart success of "Kerosene," the snarling new single, and a video built around fighting off the spotlight itself, The Warning are making one thing clear: the more eyes that turn their way, the harder they intend to bite.
